We are the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), a forward-thinking organization that believes in good government and the rights of every federal employee. 


NTEU has delivered many of the programs, benefits, and rights you value in your workplace. We are the driving force behind higher pay raises, telework programs, alternative work schedules, paid parental leave, FMLA, transit subsidies, and many other gains. In federal courts, NTEU has won precedent-setting victories for federal employees, including higher overtime rates and millions in back pay for those denied their proper compensation.

Who We Are


NTEU is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who share in common a commitment to public service. We proudly represent law enforcement officers, scientists, attorneys and cyber-security experts. Our members are revenue officers, food inspectors, bank examiners, park rangers and the list goes on. Each of these federal workers plays an important role in keeping the country running and prospering.


What We Do


Our union is the voice of the federal workforce on Capitol Hill, in the courts, at the bargaining table and in the media. We fight for fair pay and benefits, improved working conditions and other issues that affect the working lives of federal employees. We were created in 1938 to make sure federal employees are treated with respect and dignity. That remains our mission to this day and will continue to guide our work in the 21st Century and beyond.


Where We Are


NTEU is where you are. Our chapters are in 38 agencies across the country. Our headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and we have field offices in Washington; Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Chicago; Denver; Hoboken, N.J.; and Oakland, Calif. Highly-trained stewards and chapter leaders are in NTEU-represented workplaces nationwide to help employees solve issues—big and small.

For more immediate news, NTEU has an electronic e-Bulletin. There are also a number of specialized electronic publications and updates on such key issues as where bargaining stands. All of which makes for the most informed bargaining unit in the federal sector.

Eligible members now have free access to TaxSlayer tax preparation software for federal and state returns and free electronic filing, as well as schedules. It has built-in assistance to answer your questions, is cloud-based, and has a Spanish-language version. As a reminder, the IRS has imposed an income limit on the program of an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $84,000 per filer or return, if filing jointly.
